AREVA Resources Canada Donates $500,000 to New Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan

AREVA Resources Canada has donated $500,000 to support a Family Room in the Maternal Care Centre at the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan. This generous contribution to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan’s “We Can’t Wait” Capital Campaign means that pregnant women and their families will have a home-away-from-home right outside their hospital room doors when they deliver their babies.

Construction on the 176-inpatient bed facility is approximately 25% complete and is scheduled to open in 2019. Complete with a dining space1609-bb-0348, comfortable lounge furniture, and a large television, the AREVA Family Room will offer a home-like environment for family members while awaiting the arrival of their new bundle of joy. It will provide positive distraction and comfort to those in wait, and also privacy and discretion when uncertainties arise.

“We are proud to invest in communities near our activities and operations and to support healthcare infrastructure and services for the benefit of all in Saskatchewan. We are particularly pleased to contribute to the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan’s Maternal Care Centre,” says Tammy Van Lambalgen, Vice President Corporate Affairs & General Counsel of AREVA Resources Canada Inc. “The AREVA Family Room will provide a needed space for families to gather and take a break from the therapeutic areas. It’s a space that will be particularly useful for those travelling from out of town, such as many of our employees’ families and friends from northern Saskatchewan.”

“I would like to thank AREVA for this very generous donation to the Maternal Care Centre of the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan,” says Leanne Smith, Director of Maternal Services, Saskatoon Health Region.  “Maternal Services is dedicated to providing family-centred maternity care and AREVA’s support helps make this possible. The birth of a child is a time of family celebration and having great space for families is essential.”

“Having a welcoming space to help calm and care for supportive partners and families visiting the Maternal Care Centre will help nurture healthy mothers and babies, giving them the best start possible,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. “We are tremendously grateful to AREVA for their thoughtfulness and generosity.”

“On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I thank AREVA for the generous gift to this important hospital project in our province,” says the Honourable Jim Reiter, Saskatchewan Minister of Health. “We believe Saskatchewan families deserve a hospital that exemplifies patient-and-family-centred care, and meets the unique needs of mothers, babies, children and teens. The AREVA Family Room embodies the principles of an efficient modern hospital.”
