Celebrating Halloween at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital

For some children, leaving the hospital to go door-to-door trick-or-treating at Halloween isn’t that simple. Instead, this year a spooktacular celebration was brought to the kids receiving care at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

The fun-filled Halloween Celebration started in the morning with trick-or-treat bag and mask decorating in the Child Life Zone in the new hospital.

After lunch, the kids got dressed up and dozens of trick-or-treaters descended from their patient rooms to get candy and treats from different stops set up on the main floor of the hospital. Kids donned their most creative costumes, from princesses and pirates to superheroes and sloths.

Trick-or-treating was followed by an exciting Halloween party in the Child Life Zone, featuring fun and games such as music and bingo.

“Even though a child is spending a day like Halloween in the hospital, it does not mean they should miss out on all the activities and treats. If they trick or treat at home, we will do it here! If they go to Halloween parties at home, we will host one here,” said Dominique Rust, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Child Life Program Manager. “Halloween is a special event for every child growing up and providing our patients with their own Halloween experience makes their day fun, exciting, and memorable.”

JPCH Foundation donated all of the craft supplies for the kids to decorate paper masks and treat bags. Foundation staff also handed out candy at the on-site hospital office.

“This marks the first holiday celebrated in Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and we are so happy to help bring a sense of normalcy to these incredible children and their families,” said Lynn Redl-Huntington, Vice-President, Communications at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “These special kids in hospital really don’t need costumes, because they are already real superheroes.”
