Donation Brings Breastfeeding Room to New Children’s Hospital
A special space for moms and babies is coming to Saskatchewan’s new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital because of a generous gift over the holiday season. Once Upon a Child in Saskatoon has donated $25,000 for a Breastfeeding Room on the main floor of the new provincial children’s hospital, giving moms a dedicated and private area to breastfeed their babies in comfort.
With Statistics Canada reporting in 2011-12 that nearly 90% of mothers breastfed their babies, the cozy new space will be conveniently located near the elevators, lobby and child minding area for easy access.
“Saskatchewan families have been waiting a long time for this specialized facility to open its doors,” said Lorie and Cory Henderson, franchise owners for Once Upon a Child, which buys and sells gently used children’s clothing, toys, furniture and equipment. “We are humbled to be a part of building Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to help bring a comfortable environment to mothers and families.
“It is incredibly important that Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital be an inclusive, family-friendly and supportive environment,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, president and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We are genuinely grateful for this heartfelt gift from Once Upon a Child that will help keep new moms happy and healthy while giving their babies the best start possible.”
