Inaugural Healthy Kids Classic Hockey Tournament Takes to the Ice
The inaugural Healthy Kids Classic hockey tournament, in support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, took to the ice this weekend for three inspiring days. The tournament, which wraps up Sunday afternoon, is modelled after the much-loved Stollery Family Day Classic in Edmonton, which has raised over $1.5 million for the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
“We are excited to bring the Healthy Kids Classic to Saskatchewan to create a unique event focused on giving back and promoting awareness and support for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan among our province’s youth and community at large,” says organizer Stuart Regush of Great Canadian Roofing & Siding. “We hope to create an annual event that promotes and helps develop a sense of responsibility and caring for others through the great game of hockey.”
The tournament, taking place at the Jemini Arenas, will also support minor hockey and future player developmental initiatives. The four-on-four tournament, for players ranging from Novice to Bantam, is intended to promote active healthy living through playing hockey and giving back. Two dozen teams from across the province will participate in the free flowing, non-contact games.
“There is nothing more heartwarming than to see kids helping kids,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. “The Healthy Kids Classic is a great way to teach young players the value of giving back to others while having fun and being active. We are so pleased to be a part of this meaningful event.”
