No stranger to helping their community, Knights of Columbus Saskatoon Council #1517 has made another incredible gift to the youth and families of our province. The generous donation of $225,000 to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation will help to continue the tradition of ensuring innovation and specialized technology are accessible for maternal and children’s health care in our province.

In partnership with Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, this gift will support the development of a smart-phone application providing valuable virtual support for caregivers of children and adolescents with mental health challenges, led by Dr. Hua Li. Their donation will also transform diagnosis and treatment at the bedside through a cutting-edge mobile ultrasound machine within the Children’s Hospital, giving medical teams advanced technology helping provide the highest level of speed and accuracy for diagnosis and treatment while limiting invasive movements on each patient.

“We’ve been supporting the Children’s Hospital since day one and this gift will continue to help our youth and families,” said Edward Frank, Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Saskatoon Council #1517. Since 2006, prior to the original dream of building a dedicated children’s hospital in Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon Council #1517 has been steadfast in giving hope to families of our province and with this latest gift, have donated over $825,000 to enhance maternal and children’s health care with Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

In recognition of their recent gift towards world-class health care for our kids and families, right here at home, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation is pleased to name a Patient Room within Saskatchewan’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), in honour of Knights of Columbus Saskatoon Council #1517. The PICU serves Saskatchewan’s highest-risk young patients, providing round-the-clock care to critically sick and injured kids from every corner of the province. Each 100% private patient room is designed with family-centred care at the forefront, giving space for a parent or caregiver to support their child at any hour with dedicated sleep areas.

Each PICU room provides specialized LED lighting in the ceiling, simulating the Northern Lights. The unique lighting provides children the ability to control their healing environment, even when they are unable to leave their bed.

“Knights of Columbus Saskatoon Council #1517 was one of the first community service organizations to support our Foundation and Saskatchewan children and families. As Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is now open, we are so grateful for the Knights’ long-time dedication and continued belief in a healthier future for the province’s children, moms-to-be, and families. Their generosity and service to our province gives great hope and strengthens us all,” states Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

In addition to providing vital care options today, this gift will help inspire donors across the province as the Knights of Columbus Saskatoon Council #1517 officially presents the 2022 Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation 50/50, kicking off in March 2022!
