Knights of Columbus Support Moms-To-Be Through Celebrity Dinner

It’s a celebrity dinner that keeps on giving back – even after six years. Now in their seventh year of fundraising, the Saskatoon Knights of Columbus #8215 are extending their support for the soon-to-open Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

“The Knights of Columbus Council #8215 have wanted to support Saskatchewan’s first children’s hospital since the project was announced,” said Garry Maier, chair of the Knights of Columbus Celebrity Dinner Committee. “It is truly a gratifying experience to lead a team of fundraisers that are eager to help mothers and families.”

The group raises funds through its annual Knights of Columbus Celebrity Dinner, which has featured Michael “Pinball” Clemons of the Toronto Argonauts, former Saskatchewan Roughriders Henry Burris and John Chick, along with former International Olympic Committee vice-president Dick Pound. Held on behalf of 11,000 members in Saskatchewan, the event raised $70,000 in 2018 bringing the five-year total to $325,125.

The Kai family spoke at the 2018 Knights of Columbus Celebrity Dinner about their son, Sawyer, who spent many months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and underwent hip surgery.

The faith-based service group has pledged their support for a maternal patient room in the new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to help give new moms the best possible start to motherhood. The maternal patient room will be one of 49 on the third floor and allow moms-to-be to labour, give birth and stay with their new baby and supportive partner.

“The Knights of Columbus #8215 have given great hope to the children and families of Saskatchewan through their generous spirit of volunteerism and fundraising,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, president & CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Their important work will help in achieving a higher quality of life for Saskatchewan’s mom’s-to- be, children and teens. Both the Knights of Columbus and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation have the same desire, to help our province’s next generation and their families enjoy improved health and happiness. We are very proud to work with this amazing group of “Knights”.”

This year’s Celebrity Dinner will take place at Holy Family Cathedral on November 2 and will feature guest speaker and bestselling author Todd Burpo.
