Mosaic Donates $3 Million to New Child Life Zone

The Mosaic Company has announced a donation of $3 million to the Child Life Zone at the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan. The funding will support the long-term programming for the Zone, which will be a state-of-the-art therapeutic play area for pediatric patients and their families. The Zone will be home to certified child life specialists who will help Saskatchewan children cope with difficult medical challenges through play, education, and self-expression. These specialists will teach young patients about their illness and what to expect during treatment. They will also provide critical support, before, during, and after procedures.

“For over five years, Mosaic has been supporting the Children’s Hospital Foundation, building a legacy that will directly benefit families throughout Saskatchewan,” says Joc O’Rourke, Mosaic’s President and CEO. “This support, combined with Mosaic’s multi-billion dollar investment into our operations shows the long-term commitment we are making to the province and the people that live here.”

The Child Life Zone was created through a partnership between Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. Fundraising events featuring Garth Brooks were held in Saskatoon and Regina on August 26. Over $2 million was raised to fund the 2,800 square foot space, which is the first of its kind in Canada. Saskatchewan’s new Child Life Zone will join 11 others across North America, including: Atlanta, Colorado, Dallas, Denver, Fort Worth, Houston, Indianapolis, Minnesota, New York, Oklahoma, and Phoenix.

This $3 million gift announced today is in addition to Mosaic’s campaign kick-off donation of $4 million in 2011. Mosaic’s support of the Child Life Zone takes their commitment to the children’s hospital to $7 million, making it the largest total corporate contribution in the history of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. The initial donation was designated as a gift to enhance maternal equipment, research and patient care services to support patients and families at the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan.

“We are deeply honored and grateful for Mosaic’s unwavering support of our new children’s and maternal hospital, “says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. “Mosaic has been dedicated to our province’s children and families since the very beginning. Their tremendous generosity will help create a leading edge children’s hospital for Saskatchewan.”
