Quadruplet leaplings born at Saskatchewan’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital
“I was shocked,” said Gilbert, reflecting on the pivotal phone call with his partner Savannah, where he found out he was about to become a dad to four more babies. This would grow their combined family from five kids to nine.
They traveled from their home in La Ronge, SK., to Saskatchewan’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to ensure the safe delivery of their babies during their high-risk pregnancy.
Savannah and Gilbert’s quadruplets, Aleah, Beautiful, Cecilia, and Dominick, were safely born at JPCH. They are the first quadruplets born at the children’s hospital.
To add to the incredible nature of this story, they were born on Leap Day, Feb. 29, 2024.
“It still hasn’t really sunk in very much, we are still in awe with the babies,” Gilbert continued as the beeping of the lifesaving hospital equipment faded in and out.
The quadruplet leaplings were born in a surgical suite on the Mosaic Maternal Care Floor which has the capacity to accommodate multiple births. Following the birth, all four babies were taken to the NICU where they were cared for in the same room thanks to JPCH’s world-class and innovative facility. The quadruplets are receiving the care they need from the incredible JPCH staff and equipment to grow big and strong, helping them to go home to their proud new parents more quickly.
“We really appreciate the nurses and the hard work that they do. It’s really awesome they take care of the babies really well. They took care of us, they accommodated us with everything. It’s a really nice facility here. I really like the fact that there is even a Smudge Room downstairs, it’s good for us and the family to be able to do that kind of thing,” said Gilbert.
