Radiothon To Raise Funds for Pediatric Intensive Care
Inspiring
stories from real Saskatchewan families are back on Saskatoon airwaves today for
the 17th annual Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon. The
three day, 36 hour event is broadcasting live from The Centre Mall until
Friday, February 1 on 600 CJWW, 92.9 The Bull and 98COOL FM.
Funds raised will support the provincial Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at
Saskatchewan’s new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, which is set to open this
fall. This year’s event will purchase an Intracranial Pressure Monitor to help
manage bleeding and trauma in young brains, a Hyper-Hypothermia Unit, which
will correct abnormal body temperature in critically ill children, and a CardioHelp
Lung Support System for children suffering from respiratory failure in cases
such as severe influenza and pneumonia. Influenza has devastatingly resulted in
the deaths of several Saskatchewan children this flu season, and the need for
the CardioHelp machine has never been higher.
Donations will be matched up to $100,000 thanks to the generosity of Harry Zacharias, who left a legacy for children and families across Saskatchewan.
“The impact this Radiothon will have on children and families in need is tremendous,” says Sash Broda, manager, development and engagement at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We ask Saskatchewan to dig deep to help us fill Saskatchewan’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with much-needed equipment to give our kids a fighting chance for a better future.”
Last year’s event raised $618,060 for five Transcutaneous Monitors that reduce the need for needle pokes in newborn babies, and a pocket-sized Video Laryngoscope to help babies breathe easier. Since it began in 2003, the event has raised over $5.7 million for urgent pediatric and maternal needs.
