Recognizing the importance of pediatric care during #ChildrensHospitalsWeek

Since opening it’s doors just six months ago, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital has been a place of helping kids recover from illness and injury, guiding families through difficult diagnoses, and providing the best care possible for our province’s youngest patients.

To celebrate extraordinary pediatric health care in Saskatchewan and recognize the importance of children’s hospitals, this week marks the fourth annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek from April 6 to 10.

#ChildrensHospitalsWeek is a week-long initiative in collaboration with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, to shine a light on the significance of children’s hospitals and how donations help kids get the highest-quality care when they need it most. During this pandemic, children’s hospitals are on the front lines in times of crisis. Now, they are helping vulnerable children deal with any complications they may face if they contract the virus.

Many Saskatchewan children, just like our 2020 Champion Child Torrie, face each day with serious medical conditions and require specialized care at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

In 2016, Torrie was diagnosed with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) Autoimmune Blood Disease, which can be fatal or cause lasting damage if not treated right away. The perfect treatment for Torrie’s rare, serious blood disease was a special piece of equipment purchased by Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation just six months earlier. Torrie’s story took another shocking turn just a few months ago when she was diagnosed with lupus. Now every two to three months, Torrie visits Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to see a pediatric hematologist and rheumatologist to help keep her health in check.

Torrie is spending this year representing the sick and injured children of Saskatchewan and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation to raise awareness of the importance of children’s hospitals. Although the Children’s Hospitals Week events in Orlando, which Torrie planned to attend, have been postponed, she’s excited to have the province of Saskatchewan get involved in #ChildrensHospitalsWeek! It’s easy, you can…
