Sask. couple Gus and Marlene Millsap generously matching JPCHF Day of Sunshine donations

Inspired by their own personal connections to pediatric health care in Saskatchewan, Gus and Marlene Millsap are generously matching all donations made to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Day of Sunshine campaign, up to $50,000.

“We’re happy we can contribute to something like this. We know there’s a need to have this facility here,” Marlene said about their gift to Saskatchewan’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Over 30 years ago, Gus and Marlene’s six-year-old daughter Aleah Brett suddenly passed away. She’s remembered as someone who was able to spread joy and make anyone laugh. She would be 40 this year, and she left a big impact on everyone who knew her.

Gus and Marlene also saw the importance of having a dedicated children’s hospital in Saskatchewan when they had another daughter stay in an adult hospital for two months following surgery.

“We received excellent care, but the environment wasn’t conducive to families,” Marlene said about their family’s experience in hospital.

Now grandparents, Gus and Marlene have seen the difference a dedicated children’s hospital has made in the province of Saskatchewan. They have heard of a lot of families who have had to travel out of province in the past, and how valuable it is having Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatchewan to care for their children.

Gus and Marlene are proud to honour Aleah Brett by giving back. Their contribution will help advance technology and treatment at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, helping families across Saskatchewan receive specialized care close to home. They hope their story and generous contribution will raise awareness and inspire others to give.
