Saskatchewan Farmer Leaves a Legacy for Sick Kids
Saskatchewan — Lifelong farmer from southwest Saskatchewan, Harvey Hurrell, gives hope to children from every corner of the province with a generous bequest of $480,000 to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Born, Reginald Hurrell on the family farm in Hazlet, SK., hard work and community were part of who he was. Harvey was a kind and helpful neighbour, who would always stop and give a wave to make someone’s day. Combined with building a successful farm on his Double H Ranch in Pennant, SK., his generosity did not come as a surprise to his family.
Even though he didn’t have a family of his own, Harvey always had a soft spot for children saying, “Sick kids deserve the best care for a great life, so sick kids are who I will help.” This inspiring legacy donation will provide access to specialized equipment, technology, family-centred programs and ground-breaking research to enhance care for children at Saskatchewan’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
“Building a legacy is about ensuring the care and support we provide children today will continue to transform lives for generations to come,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President & CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “A sincere thank you for Harvey’s generous gift that empowers our hospital to innovate and provide the best health care possible for children and their families across Saskatchewan now and into the future.”
Last year, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital saw over 80,000 visits from babies and children from 499 communities across the province. Harvey’s kind spirit will be recognized with two private patient rooms: one in NICU and one in the province’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Leaving a gift in your will is one of the most impactful ways to support children’s and maternal health care in Saskatchewan.
