Special Easter fun for kids spending the holiday in hospital at JPCH

Children and their families enjoyed two egg-citing days of Easter celebrations this week at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

To help bring some joy to kids spending the holiday in hospital, the Child Life team planned fun Easter activities, all supported by Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Patients came down to the Child Life Zone one at a time to take their turn searching throughout the Zone for hidden Easter eggs.

After the egg hunt, kids enjoyed assembling their own Easter baskets. They could choose their baskets and fill them with candy, toys, games, chocolate and other treats.

Young patients could even join in on the fun virtually from their rooms and chose items for their baskets. There were also baskets made and delivered to all other patients who couldn’t make it to Zone for the activity.

The next day, kids enjoyed more Easter festivities with egg decorating in the Zone or their private patient rooms. Lastly, patients enjoyed an exciting Easter bingo night complete with many holiday-themed prizes.

“Creating opportunities for kids to be kids is a top priority for our team. All the patients at JPCH have the chance to participate in some fun Easter activities – an egg hunt, build your own Easter basket, and egg decorating. Events like this give patients a break from the stress of hospitalization and helps with being away from home during a holiday,” said Dominique Rust, Child Life Program Manager at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

The Child Life program offers support and education for patients and families to help reduce the anxiety and stress of a hospital stay.

The Teammates for Kids Child Life Zone joins 11 others across North America, but Saskatchewan’s Zone is the first of its kind in Canada.
