Cargill donates $126,000 for unique recovery room

A special recovery room is coming to the Pediatric Surgery Unit in the new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, all thanks to a generous donation.

Cargill Cares Saskatchewan has gifted $126,000 to support the Isolation Recovery Room, which is located within Pediatric Surgery on the ground floor of the new hospital.

Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital will be home to the very first and only dedicated Pediatric Surgery Suites in Saskatchewan, providing capacity for 5,000 surgeries each year. Whether a child needs minor surgery like the setting of a broken bone, or major surgery due to a life-threatening accident or illness, they will be cared for in the Pediatric Surgery Unit.

As one of 12 rooms that will be used for preparation and recovery from surgery, the Isolation Recovery Room will be the only dedicated space to care for children who need to be separated from the rest of the surgery unit. The room will ensure separation to minimize the risk of contamination for patients with lowered immunity.

This particular recovery room is also equipped with a specialized anteroom, which helps control transmission of airborne infections and diseases.

“Our goal is to support initiatives that our employees and customers are passionate about.  We chose Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital because it is an initiative that has the potential to touch the lives of all our employees and customers in Saskatchewan,” said Blaine Duncan, Saskatchewan Regional Manager, Cargill Agriculture Supply Chain.

Cargill is one of Canada’s largest merchandisers and processors, providing food, agriculture, financial and industrial products and services. Thanks to their employee-driven generosity, the company is contributing greatly towards the care of Saskatchewan children who will undergo surgery.

“We are so thankful for this generous gift, which will give children a calming and comfortable room to allow for preparation and recovery for their surgery,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Cargill’s incredible donation towards this specially designed recovery room will make all the difference in the lives of kids and families in the province.”

The 176-bed hospital is scheduled to be open this fall.
