Pryce

Age: 1
Hometown: Pelican Narrows
Condition: Micro Premature

Patricia’s high-risk pregnancy required frequent trips from Pelican Narrows, Sask., to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH) for ultrasound appointments every three to four weeks. Due to complications, Patricia underwent two maternal procedures to prevent miscarriage or premature delivery. However, despite their efforts, Pryce was born premature.

“I am very grateful they have a children’s hospital close to home for my prenatal appointments and birth of my son,” said Patricia.

Born at 23 weeks and three days, Pryce weighed only one pound, six ounces—a true miracle baby.

Pryce was intubated as soon as he was born and was on ventilation for three months. Pryce also required surgery for inguinal hernias, laser eye surgery and PEG-J feeding tube surgery.

From birth, Pryce spent seven months in the NICU at JPCH, and was called a “senior resident” by staff members due to his lengthy stay. Afterward, he was transferred to the PICU for a few weeks, then to the Pediatric Unit. Pryce was finally able to go home when he was 11 and a half months old.

Throughout his journey Pryce remained the happiest baby, thriving like the warrior he is. The family’s experience at JPCH was extraordinary, with kind, compassionate staff who provided expert care and heartfelt support.

“I am so thankful for everyone’s hard-working hands and minds for all that they did to help my son grow into the happy joyous baby that he is,” said Patricia.

“We loved every single one of the staff that we met and got very close with, everyone is so kind and compassionate. I did not have to worry about when I left to have a little time to myself. Everyone knew and just loved Pryce,” she continued.

Today, Pryce is a busy boy who loves Ms. Rachel videos and continues his journey of healing and growing stronger each day.
