Over $220,000 Raised at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Jeans & Jewels Gala
April 30, 2018
A groovy night at the 2018 Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Jeans & Jewels Gala presented by Mosaic was filled with good vibes all around over the weekend. Celebrating its 6th year as one of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation’s signature fundraisers, the annual event raised over $220,000 to help the moms, babies, kids, teens, and families of Saskatchewan.
The night was a blast from the past with a ‘60s theme running throughout TCU Place in Saskatoon with guests decked out in bell bottoms, peace signs, and tie-dye. Nearly 700 guests enjoyed a champagne reception, dinner, candy bar, photo booth, live and silent auction items, as well as entertainment by Saskatchewan’s own Branded Honey.
“The Jeans and Jewels Gala presented by Mosaic continues to build on the success of previous years—the organizing committee outdid themselves with the fun ‘60s theme, creative touches and new ways to raise much-needed funds for Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation,” says Sarah Fedorchuk, Vice President, Public Affairs and Government Relations for Mosaic. “Thank you to the volunteers, committee members, Foundation staff, sponsors and this year’s child ambassadors for making the night so remarkable.”
Funds raised through this year’s Jeans & Jewels Gala will help support urgent maternal and children’s equipment needs of today, as well as funding for groundbreaking research opportunities happening right here in Saskatchewan.
To celebrate this year’s Champion Child presented by Walmart Canada, nine-year-old Payton Sernick of Estevan was recognized for her outstanding courage and enthusiasm in taking on her role while undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Payton, rediagnosed with Lymphoma in fall 2017, is currently in hospital in Alberta but remains committed to two things: representing Saskatchewan kids as Champion Child, and beating cancer once and for all.
Twelve-year-old Brooklyn Entwistle, a cancer survivor herself, took to the podium at this year’s Jeans & Jewels Gala to share her tear-jerking story of rising above life’s biggest challenge. At just 10 years old, she found a lump on her leg and was soon after diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. She traveled to Edmonton to receive a rotationplasty, a procedure where her ankle was made into a knee joint instead of having a full above-knee amputation. Today, Brooklyn is able to do all the things she loves and continues to inspire others on why a children’s hospital is needed for kids like her.
“This year, at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Jeans & Jewels Gala, we experienced a flood of emotion. Knowing that our Champion Child, nine-year-old Payton is fighting her own personal battle with cancer and was unable to attend, 12-year-old Brooklyn took on the child ambassador role and spoke about hope and strength,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “She reminded us how important pediatric care is and how this new hospital is going to be life-changing to kids like her and Payton. It was a room full of compassionate people that are helping through their support and volunteer work. Thank you for helping us give the families of our province a chance to live healthier futures.”
