2022 Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon presented by CIBC Wood Gundy
Nate from Maymont, SK has spent a large majority of his life in hospital. He was born with gastroschisis, a birth defect that made his intestines develop outside of the abdominal wall.
He was living with intestinal and liver failure and fighting for survival. In December 2018, he was officially placed on the list for an intestinal and liver transplant.
After more tests and procedures were performed on Nate, his transplant team decided to change his transplant to a multi-visceral transplant, which included his stomach, duodenum, intestines and liver.
In November of 2020, Nate underwent an incredibly risky and complex procedure. Nate received transplants of his small and large intestine, liver, a large portion of his stomach, duodenum, pancreas, and the top part of his colon.
Nate is now 14 and hasn’t taken the gift he received for granted.
“Nate celebrates all his little wins,” said Jennifer. “Like watching him curl with the school and when he makes a good shot, throwing his arms in the air and celebrating like it was the biggest shot he’s ever made.”
