You would never know it to look at him, but ten-year-old Ben Fizzard’s heart has been in precarious health. Ben, an active, sports-loving kid, suffered a shocking cardiac arrest in 2014 while playing tag at school during recess.
After seeing Saskatchewan’s pediatric cardiology team in Saskatoon, Ben was sent out of province to the children’s hospital in Edmonton where he was fitted with a pacemaker and defibrillator. In June 2019, he travelled to Edmonton to have a new Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) put in his check to continue to monitor his heart.
While Ben’s medical future remains uncertain, he and his family will most certainly be regular visitors to Saskatchewan’s new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
