Saskatchewan Strong: Teaming Up to Raise Funds for Humboldt Kids

In true Saskatchewan spirit and in honour of the Humboldt Broncos, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation has teamed up with Synergy 8 Community Builders and the Saskatoon Blades Hockey Club to support the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation. Through the partnership, funds will be raised to purchase a new isolette for Humboldt District Hospital.

“It is our privilege to work side-by-side with these organizations to ensure the pediatric needs of the province are met across all corners of Saskatchewan,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “This much-needed piece of equipment comes as a tribute to our hockey community and a promise to the littlest citizens of our province that their tomorrows will be filled with hope.”

When the puck drops at SaskTel Centre for the Saskatoon Blades home opener on September 22, various fundraising activities will take place. Proceeds raised will be donated to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation who will designate the funds to purchase the isolette.

The isolette is a necessary piece of equipment designed to provide a warm, stable environment for newborn babies who need extra-special care. It will accommodate the approximate 35 babies per year who are born in Humboldt’s Obstetrical Unit. The funds originally allocated to purchase the isolette were re-directed in response to the April 6th tragedy, and with Humboldt District Hospital’s current incubator dating over 25 years old, replacing the old equipment is critical.

“We are truly humbled and grateful for this generous gift to our rural hospital to maintain our Obstetrical Program.  This is a prime example of how building partnerships make for long lasting relationships,” says Lorrie Bunko, Executive Director at Humboldt District Hospital Foundation. “Thank you to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, Synergy 8 Community Builders and the Saskatoon Blades for your support to health care in the Humboldt district”.

The donation of a custom-made green and yellow golf bag embroidered with the Humboldt Broncos logo from LPGA Canadian Golfer Alena Sharp is what prompted the fundraising to kick off. The bag, which was donated to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, was actioned off at Synergy 8 Community Builder’s Drive For Kids Golf Tournament on August 28 for $19,000.

As a provincial charity raising funds for pediatric and maternal health care needs in Saskatchewan, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation believes in collaborating with those who help deliver care to the babies, kids, moms-to-be, and families across the entire province. Centrally located in Saskatoon, the new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital will serve as a hub of pediatric and maternal excellence that extends across several health care facilities in rural communities. The need for enhanced equipment was recognized in the Humboldt community in order to reach the goal of better patient care across Saskatchewan. Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is currently 87% complete and scheduled to open late next year.
