Child Life Zone

Young patients at Saskatchewan’s new children’s hospital will have a special space to play, learn, laugh, and relax in a new state-of-the-art therapeutic play area called the “Child Life Zone.” The Zone allows children to heal faster, hope higher, and do what children are meant to do – use their imaginations to be kids! The Zone will join eleven others across North America, including Atlanta, Colorado, Dallas, Denver, Fort Worth, Houston, Indianapolis, Minnesota, New York, Oklahoma, and Phoenix. Saskatchewan’s new zone will be the first in Canada.

Theatre

Main Lobby Theatre

Having to be in hospital can be stressful and scary for any child and their family, but what better way to brighten their stay than with their favorite movie? The new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital will be home to a theatre in the main floor lobby where pediatric patients and their families can laugh and relax. The goal is to create a fun escape from the reality of the illnesses and medical treatments children in the hospital face and in the process, hopefully deliver a “normal” experience for the entire family. It’s about minimizing the negative impact of illness and hospitalization and giving children and families a positive experience to focus on and remember.

100% Private Patient Rooms

One of the best examples of providing an environment that promotes wellness and a sense of healing is our private patient rooms. Private rooms help to reduce stress on children and their families by providing ample space, peace and quiet for a comfortable night’s sleep, all while improving infection control. Each private room includes space for visitors and a place for a parent to sleep. Single patient rooms are known to improve patient care delivery because they provide privacy not only for the family but for patient consultations with clinicians.

Accessible from the Acute Care and Intensive Care Units lies a sanctuary for patients and their families to wander, explore, play or just quietly reflect. Offering access to the healing powers of nature, this space will provide important therapeutic and relaxation opportunities for patients; especially for those experiencing stress or longer stays. The serenity of nature will help soothe the body, mind and soul, uplifting the spirit and enhancing healing.
