Creative community fundraisers helping Saskatchewan kids and families in hospital

While COVID-19 has caused the cancellation of many important fundraising events, it hasn’t stopped the creativity and generosity of people from across the province.

In true Saskatchewan spirit, many people are still continuing to find great ways to make a difference in their community by helping our province’s children and families have access to the very best in pediatric and maternal care, equipment and research.

Brittany Brotzel is the proud owner of James Marie Designs, a local jewelry line based out of Regina. After searching the market for crystal jewelry and not finding something that suited her style, Brotzel decided to start making her own. Each bracelet is handmade with love, as Brotzel has personally chosen each crystal and gemstone with careful intent based on their high quality and meaning.

Her unique line of earthy, bohemian bracelets has been an important outlet for her to be creative, spread positivity and give back. She is donating $5 from the sale of each handmade bracelet to a charity close to her heart, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“It feels amazing to know that in some small way I can make an impact on the lives of children and families. I feel like Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is one of the best things to have ever happened to Saskatchewan and I hope to grow my business large enough to one day make a big difference,” Brotzel said.

Family means everything to Brotzel and after some unexpected experiences early on with her own daughter, she knew she wanted to help children and families in hospital.

“The thought alone of parents having to go through something as scary as a sick child or a child fighting for their health is enough to make you want to do anything you can to help. I decided on the Foundation because I feel like it helps the most families and children at a time and place when they need it the most,” Brotzel explained.

Seventeen-year-old Brynn Romanovitch of Weyburn started making masks in April to help people through COVID-19 and decided to donate the proceeds to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. The cost of a mask is only $5 plus shipping. To order your mask please contact masksbybrynn@gmail.com. 

Breanne Coates is a third-year nursing student in Saskatoon who has a love for gardening and helping others. She is spending her summer selling bouquets and donating 80 per cent of the proceeds to the Foundation. View the beautiful flowers on her Instagram account, @bresblooms. You can celebrate the gift of yoga right from your living room this summer, while at the same time giving back to kids in hospital. Join Vinyasa Bloom Yoga online for their Facebook live yoga marathon on July 18 and 19 for the opportunity to try various styles of practice. It is a free event where participants are encouraged to give back by donating to the Foundation.

Every purchase from Jodi Miller Artwork and Design is helping make a difference in the community. Jodi works with each of her collectors to choose a local charity of their choice, where she then donates 50 per cent of the proceeds from the painting. This way you can receive an incredible piece of local art, while also supporting Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

 The month of June is the perfect time to do some prep work on your outdoor oasis, but you only have until June 30 to help Saskatchewan kids in hospital when you shop online at Lowe’s.
