In Memory of Henry Tosh
by Alex Tosh and Rustee Apps
You can help honour the memory of Henry by making a donation to support Saskatchewan kids and families in hospital. Donations to this fundraising page will also create an opportunity to place Henry’s name on a memorial pillar on the ground floor of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
Alex Tosh and Rustee Apps were excited to welcome their first child Henry into the world on Jan. 8, 2019.
However shortly after Henry was born, the Saskatoon couple’s excitement quickly turned into panic and worry.
Doctors discovered that Henry had serious heart complications that were undetected during Rustee’s pregnancy. Henry was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis, a congenital heart defect that restricts blood flow.
Just hours after his birth, Henry along with Alex were flown to Edmonton by the Neonatal Transport Team where Henry underwent his first surgery. The next day, Rustee was discharged from the hospital and flew to join her family in Edmonton.
Following his first surgery, complications continued as Henry was diagnosed with another heart defect, and he required a mitral valve replacement.
The family had to spend two months in Edmonton and during that time, Henry underwent a total of four open-heart surgeries. Henry faced another challenge of a fungal infection which was too much to overcome and sadly he passed away.
Now Henry’s family is honouring his memory by fundraising and donating to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation to provide lasting remembrance.
