Lorna Benson

Kaden Benson was born in March 2009. He underwent heart surgery at 21 months old to repair a coarctation of the aortic arch and a few other issues found along the way. Pre- and post-surgery complications have graced our family with relationships and life experiences that have influenced how we handle life. Kaden loves to snowmobile, ski and swim but especially loves attending CHAMPS Camp. Currently he is participating in a heart research study conducted by the University of Saskatchewan. Kaden’s most favourite saying is, “I have the heart of a warrior and the scar to prove it.”

For those of you who may not know, we are a heart family.

February is Heart Month.

I just happen to be born on Valentine’s Day, which makes being a heart mom that much more special! I don’t usually advertise my birthday and can usually hide from it by disappearing to the mountains on a ski trip, but this year the school break didn’t quite line up. I am faced with turning 40 and I couldn’t be more excited. They say, “You are only as old as you feel, and I feel great!” I am not much for receiving gifts, I actually prefer to give gifts instead. To celebrate my birthday, I have teamed up with Mending Little Hearts of Saskatchewan to raise awareness and funds to help Saskatchewan heart children.
