Children’s Hospital Jeans & Jewels Gala Raises over $230,000

It was a garden party like no other at the Children’s Hospital Jeans & Jewels Gala presented by Mosaic over the weekend at TCU Place. The annual fundraiser featured a champagne reception, dinner, candy bar, photo booth, live and silent auctions, as well as entertainment by Nashville-based CCMA-nominee Tenille Arts who originally hails from Weyburn. With nearly 650 guests in attendance from across the province, the Saskatoon event raised net proceeds of over $230,000.

“The Mosaic Company has believed in the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan from the very beginning, and the Jeans & Jewels Gala is a fun and exciting way to help the hospital reach its capital campaign goal,” said Sarah Fedorchuk, Senior Director of Public Affairs – Potash at Mosaic. “We are proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of this important event that helps build healthier tomorrows for Saskatchewan kids.”

With Saskatchewan one of only two provinces without a children’s hospital, twelve-year-old Calla Gross, this year’s Champion Child presented by Walmart Canada, spoke about the need for a children’s hospital here at home.

“It is important to have a children’s hospital because the kids who need it have been through a lot and the hospital will ensure that they will have the care and comfort they need,” said Calla, who was born 13 weeks prematurely and donates her piggy bank money to the Foundation every year. “I remember what it is like to be in the hospital and I want other kids’ experiences to be not as a scary.”

While the new maternal and children’s hospital was top of mind for many, guests also had the opportunity to purchase comfort kits for children currently in Saskatchewan’s three pediatric wards in Saskatoon, Regina, and Prince Albert. Nearly $1,700 was raised to provide young patients with the comforts of home, including games, colouring supplies, books, PlayDoh, bubble kits, and even a toothbrush.

“The Children’s Hospital Jeans & Jewels Gala is such a special night, bringing together supporters, donors, sponsors, families, and the medical teams that help our province’s moms and children,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. “We are very thankful for the support of everyone involved to help fund the most urgent maternal and pediatric needs of today as well as the enhancements and special elements needed for our new hospital.”
