Sandra Schmirler Foundation supports Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital’s NICU with a generous $20,000 donation

Through a proud partnership with Saskatchewan’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation (JPCHF), the Sandra Schmirler Foundation has generously donated $20,000. This grant is in conjunction with the WFG Masters Grand Slam of Curling event that was held in Saskatoon in December 2023.

“We are thrilled to be able to support the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation again this year,” said Darren McEwen, Executive Director of Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

“The reason we exist is to honour Sandra’s legacy and to remember her by raising funds for life-saving Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) equipment, giving babies born too soon, too small, or too sick the chance to grow up and become a champion like Sandra.”

Every year, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH) sees 968 NICU cases with an average stay of 31 days*. This heartfelt gift will support JPCH’s NICU with the purchase of a transcutaneous CO2 monitor.

“We want to express our sincere appreciation to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation for their continued dedication to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation,” said Heather Hedstrom, Community Engagement Director at JPCHF.

“Instrumental in acquiring specialized equipment for our NICU, our partnership exemplifies the positive impact we can achieve when communities come together to prioritize the health and well-being of our youngest patients.  Thank you for making a difference in the lives of children and their families.”

SSF was created in January 2001 as a legacy to three-time world curling champion and Olympic gold medalist, Sandra Schmirler, in recognition and celebration of her love of family. Sandra Schmirler Foundation’s Telethon will be held at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts (Canadian Women’s Curling Championship) in Calgary on Sunday, February 18. Learn more at sandraschmirler.org.
