Hotel company helping bring comfort to families in hospital

A local hotel management company is helping families get a good night’s sleep, while still staying close to their children in the hospital.

D3h Hotels has gifted $50,000 for a family sleep room in Acute Care Pediatrics on the second floor of the new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

The sleep space was a perfect fit for the company, which manages 13 hotels across Saskatchewan and Alberta under two major franchise brands, Days Inn and Home Hotels. For 20 years, d3h Hotels has also helped provide accommodations to families travelling to seek medical attention in both provinces.

“As a company who specializes in providing hotel accommodations, we cannot be prouder of this donation towards a special sleep room,” said Jesse Tiefenbach, chief human resource officer of d3h Hotels.

While each private patient room in the new hospital will have space for a parent to sleep, there could be times when additional space is needed. The sleep room can be used by another family member, or as an alternate quiet space for a parent to recharge and rejuvenate.

The comfortable and private sleep room was made possible through the d3h Foundation, which raises money through volunteer-based local community events and individual hotel initiatives, with the proceeds going towards helping families and children.

“It is because of the hard work and dedication that all our employees have made towards fundraising which allows for a donation like this to be made,” Tiefenbach said.

“This unique sleep space will allow parents and family members to stay with their children, while getting the rest they need without having to leave the hospital,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We know this generous gift will help bring comfort to families when they need it the most.”

The hospital is on schedule for opening this fall.
