Millsap family makes second gift to honour daughter’s memory
A Saskatoon couple has doubled down on their support of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, making a second gift to the “We Are Saskatchewan” capital campaign.
The $200,000 donation from Gus and Marlene Millsap will support two exam rooms within Pediatric Outpatients, which will be located on the main floor of the hospital. The rooms will provide comprehensive care for pediatric cardiology, cancer, speech and language, hearing and psychiatry appointments. The gift was made in memory of their daughter Aleah.
“When a family struggles with their child’s health, specialized care needs to be in close proximity,” said Gus and Marlene Millsap. “We are confident that this contribution will help the children in our community achieve a higher quality of life.”
The Millsaps previously named two pediatric inpatient rooms in Aleah’s honour with a $250,000 gift in 2017. These private patient rooms will offer the most comfortable environment possible for families as each includes space for a parent to sleep and large, bright windows which is proven to elevate moods, regulate sleep and decrease stress.
The exam rooms that the Millsaps are supporting in Pediatric Outpatients will allow families to visit their pediatric specialist or other health care provider for appointments. It is expected that 40,000 patients will use this area annually, and to help with navigation, the clinics will be divided into animal-themed pods which include Moose, Prairie Dog, Frog and Fox.
“Gus and Marlene Millsap are an important part of our donor family and we are awed to see them make a second gift to our Foundation,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Sometimes the words ‘thank you’ just don’t justify the incredible gifts of generosity we see, however we are sincere in those words of gratitude to the Millsap family.
