Cameco Cares Concert Rocks and Raises Over $200,000
Grammy-winning pop rock band Train headlined a memorable night for Saskatchewan kids and families, entertaining the crowd at Delta Bessborough Gardens for this year’s Cameco Cares concert. The concert raised more than $200,000 to help fund a special infusion therapy room in the new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
The community concert series, presented by CRUZ FM, launched in 2014 with different hospital foundations receiving ticket proceeds each year. This year’s proceeds will help establish a Day Medicine and Treatment Room at Saskatchewan’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital. The room will provide a variety of treatments including chemotherapy, blood transfusions and insulin therapy. It will be equipped with games and activities to comfort children and reduce their anxiety while receiving treatment.
“We’ve always believed that music is a wonderful healer and there’s no greater way to celebrate that philosophy than with the Cameco Cares Concert Series featuring Train,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “The tremendous community support from partners like Cameco and as well as everyone who has purchased a ticket is helping create a world-class facility for children and families right here in Saskatchewan.”
With a crowd of over 2500 people, lead singer Patrick Monahan and the rest of the band belted out a string of hits including Drops of Jupiter, Drive By, Hey Soul Sister and the band’s current single, Play That Song.
“We’re thrilled to support this once-in-a-generation project that will benefit so many,” says Tim Gitzel, Cameco President and CEO. “Community support for Cameco Cares has been unbelievable and we’re so proud of the staff and volunteers who spent months planning every detail to produce a memorable event with a wonderful legacy.”
The four-year total for the Cameco Cares Concert Series now exceeds $820,000. Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is over 63% complete and is on schedule for a 2019 opening.
